Cheek enhancements may be desirable either to improve the definition of the cheek bones and to contour the face or to lift the mid face as part of facial rejuvenation. This treatment can also diminish the appearance of nose to mouth lines which then gives the face a fresher, more youthful look.
Cheekbone Contouring, otherwise known as Cheek Filler, is a Dermal Filler based treatment which helps define the cheek and cheekbone area. Our clients have found that they are having to contour less with makeup, meaning that you don’t need to bother too much with your contour palettes.
PRIOR THE TREATMENT :
The area is cleaned with antiseptic and marked using a marker pen to decide on the
optimum site for enhancement. Numbing cream can be applied if patients prefer for
The new injection technique has allowed the treatment to be very comfortable and not necessarily need any topical anesthetic. The dermal filler is slowly injected to place the filler above the cheek bone. Further product may be placed laterally in the cheek to further enhance the contour depending on the natural shape of your cheek. The result is immediate and will last about up to 18 months. However, due to the immediate swelling from the procedure the final result will not be seen until about 3-4 weeks. A plan for regular follow-up treatments to maintain the initial result can be created for you. Our treatment provides a long-lasting but not permanent result leaving you the option of refining your treatment in tunewith changing taste and fashion.
POST TREATMENT :
- It is advised to lay on your back for the first 2-3 nights sleep to avoid pressure on the treated area
- Avoid touching and applying creams or make up for 6 hours after the treatment to prevent infection
- Avoid exercise for 4-6 hours post treatment
- Minimise excessive sun exposure
- Ensure to wear an SPF 35+ daily
Due to the possible post treatment effects of the injection it is be better to rest until the next day. You are advised to take some pain killers to prevent any discomfort for 1-2 days if necessary
You may have swelling and bruising for 24-72 hours. It is recommended to avoid planning social events for 48 hours. Swelling and bruising, in some cases. can take up to 14 days to settle.
After the treatment some common injection-related reactions might occur, such as swelling, redness, pain, itching, discoloration and tenderness at the injection site. These typically resolve spontaneously within 2 to 10 days
There are some other very rare complications that can happen. Victoria will discuss these with you within your consultation.
Stop taking vitamin E, ginkgo biloba, ginseng, St. John’s Wort, Omega 3/Fish Oil supplements and Ibuprofen for a few days before the treatment. This is because these tablets thin your blood slightly which can increase the risk of bruising and swelling.
If you take Aspirin, Clopidogrel, Warfarin or any other type of blood thinner please get in touch with Victoria as it could be dangerous for you to stop without medical advice.
Don’t drink alcohol for 24 hours before or after your treatment, as alcohol can also thin your blood which increases the chance of bruising and swelling.
Avoid any strenuous exercise or excessively hot showers or baths for 24 hours after the treatment, because the heat can force your blood to pump round your body faster which can make bruising and swelling worse.
You can help to reduce the bruising and swelling after injections bu applying an ice pack (wrapped in a clean cloth) to the area every few hours.
After the treatment Victoria will give you a pot of arnica to take home with you, this will help with any bruising or swelling. You can apply it hourly with freshly washed hands.
To help to prevent swelling, an anti-histamine tablet can be taken before your treatment along with a paracetamol (if you are not allergic or sensitive to either). We also recommend taking a daily anti-histamine for a few days after the injections to help settle any swelling.
Avoid applying make up for at least 12 hours to prevent infection, also make sure hands are clean prior to touching the area.
Schedule your appointment at least 2 weeks prior to any special event which you may be attending, such as a wedding or a holiday to allow any bruising and swelling to settle.
Please let your Victoria know if you suffer from cold sores prior to the treatment as I may prescribe an anti-viral medication prior to the procedure.
If the injection site maybe uncomfortable for a few days, you can take regular paracetamol to help with the discomfort.
If you develop any pain that does not get better, or if you are concerned on any way please get in touch.
The most common dermal filler used for the cheek area is Hyaluronic acid.
Hyaluronic acid is one of nature’s most versatile and fascinating substances. It is found throughout the body as well as in most other living organisms. It has many functions, for example, giving the skin elasticity, providing our skin with volume and also giving it a youthful appearance. Dermal fillers consist of sterile gels consisting of non-animal, cross-linked, hyaluronic acid (HA) and are created in a laboratory. They contain no human or animal DNA and have the best safety profile of all the fillers currently on the market as it is the only type of filler that is reversible.
The products used at Beyoo Aesthetics are FDA approved and have a proven safety record, these include Juvederm, Restylane and Belotero.
